Dressed for the Battle:

Why Your Daily "Spiritual Wardrobe" Matters

Last year, Wayne gave an incredible workshop session centring around the Armour of God and
how we should use it in our everyday lives, enabling us, as God’s soldiers, to live in the victory
that has already been claimed on the Cross. Here’s a quick refresher, as it’s worth sharing.

In the book of Nehemiah, we see a powerful picture of restoration. As the people of Israel rebuilt
the walls of Jerusalem, they didn’t just work on the city at large; they started by rebuilding the
walls outside their own homes first. The principle is clear: we must take care of our lives at
home—our private character and personal faith—before we can effectively help the world
around us. At the “Horse Gate,” where soldiers once rode out to war, we are reminded that we
are in a spiritual battle.

But how do we fight? Not with fists or earthly weapons, but by putting on the Armour of God. As Paul outlines in Ephesians 6, we are called to find our strength in the Lord’s power, not our
own.

The Believer’s Wardrobe
Paul likely looked at the Roman guards or his own chains and saw a spiritual parallel for every
piece of equipment. To stand firm against the “wiles of the devil,” we must be fully equipped:

The Belt of Truth: The enemy loves to twist the truth. By buckling on God’s Word, we
protect ourselves from deception.
The Breastplate of Righteousness: Living a life that pleases God protects our hearts
from shame and the “double life” that undermines our witness.
The Shoes of Peace: These keep us moving. When we are ready to share the Gospel,
we aren’t sitting on the couch; we are active participants in the Kingdom.
The Shield of Faith: This is our defense against the “flaming arrows” of doubt, fear, and
worry.
The Helmet of Salvation: This is our hope. Knowing our identity in Christ guards our
minds against despair.
The Sword of the Spirit: The Word of God is our only offensive weapon. It is how Jesus
defeated temptation, and it is how we win our battles today.

The Ultimate Weapon: Prayer
You can have all the gear on, but without Prayer, you lack the power source. Paul reminds us to
pray in the Spirit on all occasions. Whether you are in a season of “winter” or “spring,” prayer
connects you to the victory Jesus already won on the Cross.

The enemy is like a chicken with its head cut off—he’s already defeated, he just doesn’t know it
yet. So, don’t run from the battle. Stand firm, dress for success, and walk in the victory of Christ.
